Council Member Helen Sears (D - Queens) welcomes the 9th Annual Latino Festival to Queens. The festival, sponsored by JP Morgan Chase, will be held at the Queens Theatre in the Park in Flushing Meadows/Corona Park. 2005 now through August 7th. Council Member Sears released the following statement:

"I am overjoyed to welcome the Latino Festival back to Queens the 9th year in a row. I welcome the festival and all of the artists not only as a Council Member but also as an avid art, music, and performance devotee. The next week will provide the residents of Queens, and those visiting from around the world to witness the wonder that is Latino culture."

Sears continued: "I would also like to take this opportunity to commend the Queens Theatre in the Park for hosting this event, Claudia Norman for serving as the Festival's Artistic Director, and the sponsor JP Morgan Chase. And as a representative of one of the largest Latino communities in Queens I would like to express my heart-felt gratitude to all who seek to understand, imagine, and beautify our world through art, especially those in our Latino community, and those here this week."

Council Member Sears concluded: "As the festivities and prepared and celebrations arranged I welcome the Festival, Peru Negro, the Festival's opening night performer, and all performers and visitors at the Festival."

Council Member Helen Sears has worked through her position on the New York City Council to in crease funding for the arts, culture and immigrant initiatives. The Festival will run from July 27th, 2005 through August 7th, 2005 at the Queens Theatre in the Park .  07/28/05
