Using the raw, organic sounds associated with world music and African culture, this rhythmic musical collection transforms classic Celtic phrases into something purely tribal. It’s like listening to the soundtrack of a National Geographic movie; the music is so non-contemporary that the average listener may be put off.
But the guys and gals of Baka Beyond aren’t from another planet; they’re from the Cameroon rainforest. (Collectively, though, they all hail from different places.) Rhythm Tree was written over a 10-year period in which members of the band built a studio/nightclub from the wood of a large tree; this tree has since been coined the “rhythm tree.” If you’re into tribal drumming, world music and feel-good earth jams, Baka Beyond is your ticket to letting your inner flower child out. 08/31/05 >> go there
