Sixty-three-year-old Malian guitarist Traoré has a deep-grooved bluesy style and a gentle, melancholic voice with echoes of Mississippi Delta musicians. But while John Hurt and John Lee Hooker have left their mark on Traoré, the main influence on him are the hypnotic chants and rhythms of his native Kassongé region.
