Shepherd Express, CD Review >>
By David Luhrssen
Another World is Possible (Uncivilized World) "Noam Chomsky rocks" could be the catchphrase for Another World is Possible. It's a collection of tracks by musicians from many nations who are working in their own way against the insidious ideology of globalization, which holds the world spellbound in a mirage of material progress. Another World includes the rocking sounds of Asian Dub Foundation's cover of the Clash's "Police on My Back" and the drunken Serbian brass-band rendition of "Lost in the Supermarket" by Emir Kusturica. Afrobeat is represented by Femi Kuti, ska by the Skatalites and reggae by dub master Lee Scratch Perry. Moby adds a touch of melancholy electronica with "Afterlife." Chomsky, by the way, is one of the distinguished author-activists who contributes an essay to the jacket booklet. 11/03/05 >> go there
