Another World Is Possible Uncivilized WorId
Musician as activist? Of course. Kicking off with an exclusive track by Manu Chao, a popular French/Spanish icon of underground music, this disc brings together an eclectic cross-section of artists in genres ranging from electronic to Afrobeat, who are known as much for their musicality as their politics. Highlights include filmmaker-turned-jazz-rocker Emir Kusturica's gypsy-brass take on the Clash's Lost in the Supermarket; rare live tracks by Femi Kuti (I Wanna Be Free) and the Skatalites (Freedom Sounds); plus French acts Zebda and Idir. The album comes with a tiny hardcover book of essays from 10 politicos critical of globalization, including French activist Jose Bove, Mexico's Subcomandante Marcos, India's Arundhati Roy and Iran's Shirin Ebadi.
