Various Artists, Another World Is Possible (Attac).

This collection brings together like-minded writers, activists and musicians who seek an alternative world to the rapidly globalizing planet.  Sure, the assembled folks are on the fringe of socialist activism, some more radical than others, but the music is fantastic.  And the accompanying booklet features essays from global writers including Arundhati Roy.  The musical hodgepodge includes songs, live tracks, or remixes from the likes of Moby, Nitin Sawhney, Massive Attack, Manu Chao, Femi Kuti and others.  Some of the issues tackled here by the ATTAC activists include resistance from the mountains of Chiapas, untouchables from New Delhi, farmers from the Larzac region in France, and Human Rights campaigners in Tehran.  In our knee-jerk reactionary society, which is replete with self-serving patriotism, another world is possible, with a little vigilance. 03/01/06
