Klezmer Madness, a six-piece band featuring clarinetist David Krakauer, will perform Monday at Havurah Shir Haddash in Ashland.

Krakauer and his band play compositions that are rooted in the traditional Jewish folk songs, but are fused with rhythm and blues, jazz, classical and funk.

This is not your grandmother’s klezmer, unless she likes remixed chant and klezmer tributes to James Brown.

Krakauer , a member of the chamber music faculties at Mannes College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, has collaborated with the Tokyo String Quartet, the Orquesta Sinfonica del Barcelona and the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

One of Krakauer’s recent creative collaborations includes teaming with Jewish hip-hop beat musician Socalled for an album titled "Bubbemeises: Lies My Gramma Told Me" on a Label Bleu CD.  12/09/05 >> go there
