Marcel Khalifé & Al Mayadine Ensemble

Hogg Auditorium - One of the pre-eminent Near East musicians, Lebanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Marcel Khalifé makes a rare Old Waterloo appearance. An artistic and political vanguard, the oudist was named the United Nation’s Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Artist for Peace in 2005. Khalifé and company don’t need help making their performance one of the more salient international shows this year, but two sets that draw from Mahmoud Darwish’s poetry and this year’s Taqasim (Nagam) don’t hurt.
