Philadelphia Daily News, Hot Sounds for the Holidays/ CD Review >>
A father of world fusion and new age music, Paul Winter's newly Grammy-nominated 25th anniversary concert set recorded at New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine is a haunting, wondrous piece of work.
At once classically refined and organic, the music serves as a universal form of celebration - of earth and all its inhabitants - with only one overt holiday reference (a performance of "Silent Night" that pops up late on the second disc).
Guests collaborating with soprano sax-blowing Winter and his chamber ensemble include the hearty gospel singer Theresa Thomason, the Russian vocalists of the Dmitri Poikrovsky Ensemble, Armenian szaba player Arto Tuncboyaciyan, drummer Mickey Hart, piper Davy Spillane, the holiday wails of a humpback whale and sun gong player Scott Sloan.
A bonus disc allows you to enjoy the music in even more impeccable, DVD-Audio surround sound
