Les Yeux Noirs embody music’s desire to bridge gaps and acquire new listeners through the fusion of genres. With songs sung in French, Yiddish and Romanian, their music has that youthful fire and intensity necessary to get over any language barrier. Their newest album, T’Chorba “is a soup, a Turkish soup made with a lot of good things,” says vocalist/violinist Eric Slabiak. Their music ranges from funky up-tempo jams to traditional Yiddish melodies, full of heartrending strings and sorrowful vocals; quite the diverse mix of sounds. With the use of samples, programming and contemporary post-production, this album is a great attempt at bringing the music of the old world to a whole new generation of young ears. 02/22/06
