The I-Three will be in concert tomorrow (Saturday, June 24) at the historic Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City on the 11th Tribute to Women of Colour, with South African Thandiswa Mazwai, as special guest. The stellar event is part of the celebration of June as Black Music and Caribbean-American Heritage Month.

The concert, to be hosted by Ntozake Shange Tony and Emmy Award winner, Dahved Levy, WBLS Radio personality and spoken word artiste La Bruja, is under the auspices of the Caribbean Cultural Centre African Diaspora Institute in partnership with the Apollo Theater.

This will be the debut solo appearance in the US for Thandiswa Mazwai, the winner of 2005 South African Music Award, who released her debut album in February of this year.

The lead vocalist from the formidable pop group, Bongo Maffin, elegantly fuses various musical genres from traditional Xhosa rhythms, and the thumping beats of kwaito, to gospel, R&B, hip hop and raga. She has previously shared stages with music icons such as Stevie Wonder, Sean Paul and others.

The most influential female singing group in the history of reggae music, the I-Three, decorated the music of Bob Marley for more than 10 years. With the passing of the king of reggae, all three women, Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt, continued their established solo careers, reuniting periodically.

In a career spanning over four decades, Marcia Griffiths has earned her title 'The Queen of Reggae'. Rita Marley has enjoyed a successful solo career, with her album We Must Carry On garnering a Grammy nomination. Judy Mowatt has recorded widely in both secular and gospel in different styles - reggae and soul.

She had the honour of being the first female artiste to record at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studio where she produced her album Black Woman that earned a Grammy nomination.
