French flamenco guitarist Patrice Larose joins forces with Senagalese-Gambian-French singer Julia Sarr for an explosive album that is filled to its core with a fantastically complex sound. Left with a feeling of Africa art folk music, “Set Luna” manages to create depth and spontaneity in a genre that is often left by the wayside in the mainstream world music crowd. The rhythms are adventuresome and leave you with an urgency of movement. Complex time signatures maintain a subtle distance from the melodies of Sarr’s vocals while Larose boggles our mind with fantastic guitar play. Truly an amazing album boasting the perfect start to the New Year.
