On his second outing as bandleader, Abraham Gomez-Delgado sets further fire to the Latin styles he explored on their self-titled debut. The Puerto Rican native views his craft as sonic stained glass, meticulously discrim inating in execution. Cama De La Delgado's playful take on "chill out conga" and "backwards Latin is anything but sedate. Even at a slower BPM, as on "La Costilla," rock en espanol signatures appear in the form of wailing guitars and blazing tenor saxophones. The record is sojourn, navigating Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela in a hodgepodge experiment. For ttie most part, his collaborations work, though his grating, slightly harsh voice adds rough noise that's hard to avoid. Yet when it emerges above the flamenco guitar on the beautiful "Maltida Cancion," the duende of this artist shines. If Frank Zappa and Mike Patton had a young cousin, his name would certainly be Gomez - backwards, of course. -DEREK BERES  06/01/06
