Samite
Embalasasa
(Triloka)

The title song refers to a colorful but poisonous lizard that su faced in Uganda when Samite was growing up there. The vel vety-voiced singer-songwriter fcees the reptile as a metaphor for AIDS, which he describes as "a deadly disease transmitted through the most beautiful, vi brant and natural act of sex." An engaging storyteller, he creates contemporary fables and revives traditional tribal tales while ac companying himself on kalimba (thumb piano) and guitar. Play ing flute in instrumental pieces, he paints tone pictures of an imaginary journey and a bird fly- iqg over a magical lake. His simple tunes are supported by pulsing drum rhythms, a female backup singer and a small group of jazz musicians who share his dedication to world harmony through the healing power of music.
