ASHA BHOSLE
Love Supreme (Times Square)
The fun side of this CD is the second disc, a sampling of songs from the '60s and '70s by one of the most prolific talents of India's movie industry, Asha Bhosle. Her movie themes from that era are colorful cocktails of rumba drumming, sci-fi organs, James Bond brass, rock 'n' roll guitars and tinkling all topped by Bhosle's piercing Bollywood wail. The new material on Side One is saffron-scented pop, Indian elevator music at worst, intriguingly moody at its best, but all sung in a voice that has lost none of its power with time.
