Pedro Luis Ferrer, Natural (Escondida): poet with a tres in hand, Ferrer stakes out a kind of Cuban tropicalia stance, full of abstraction, hallucination and innuendo mixed with traditional island sounds. Wholly acoustic and played by small group with multiple singers, he calls it changuisa, a mix of Cuban styles. While the subtleties of those elements might elude all but the expert in Cuban as might the many it comes out sounding charming at a mini mum. This one's been growing on me. 08/01/06
