At downtown L.A.’s California Plaza, Grand Performances’ sprawling 20th-anniversary season starts on Saturday, June 17, at 3 p.m. with renowned folksinger Arlo Guthrie and three generations of his family. On Saturday, July 1, it’s juiced-up Mexican funk quintet Kinky with Latin-laced electronica by Bogota’s Sidestepper. The next day, hear vocalists Emeline Michele from Haiti and Sara Tavares of Portugal, whose songs speak of family roots with the hope of dissolving political strife.
