The Riverbend Live! Concert Series is celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer with a tribute to Ray Charles, a reappearance of Mumbo Gumbo, children’s theater, cowboy poetry, and Cuban and Caribbean music by Ska Cubano.
The venue of music, humor, and drama will feature entertainment each Friday night from July 7 to Aug. 4 at Riverbend Park in Winston.
Ska Cubano will rock the stage Aug. 4 for the concert’s final night. The group performs a mixture of Cuban and Caribbean music. Performers Nathan Lerner (Natty Bo), Eddie “Tan Tan” Thornton and Megumi Mesaku combine talents to create a unique blend of Jamaican and Cuban ska music.
“They jump in the audience; they make you dance,” said Mo Nichols, 60, of Winston, secretary of the Riverbend Live! Concert Series.
The series’ mission statement is to bring in talent that wouldn’t normally be enjoyed without traveling a substantial distance and paying a significant fee, Mo Nichols said.
