SKA CUBANO Far from the usual merengue-like monotony of ska, this Anglo-Cubano unit mixes Skatelites-quality grooves (think Ernest Ranglin), the dissonant horn blasts of impulsive cumbia, and some terrific Cuban rumbas, complete with a Beny More sound-alike singer, into a percussion-mad Caribbean mix that even ska-phobic jazz fans can dig (although it’s probably too rich for KROQ).
