Virginia Pilot, CD Review, by Eric Feber >>

Since the '60s, Jamaican and Cuban music have gone their separate ways. Now, thanks to Great Britain based Ska Cubano, headed by producer Peter Scott and DJ/singer/ska king Natty Bo, that oversight has been corrected.
Featuring London's top Jamaican and Cuban expatriate musicians, Ska Cubano offers fans the most fun they can have on a dance floor without getting arrested.  Imagine The Specials sitting in with the Ricky Ricardo Orchestra.
The CD is a humorous, infectious stew of energetic ska, Cuban mambo, and son and Colombian cumbia.  Lyrics are sung by Bo and Cuban singer Beny Billy in Spanish, English, and Jamaican patois.  Songs include screwy instrumentals and warhorses like "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" and "Jezebel."  Arrangements are highlighted by punchy ska horns, chicka-chicka guitar rhythms, percussive piano riffs, and enough percussion to fuel an all-night salsa party.
"Aye Carumba's!" a toe tapping blast of Carribean rhythm.  Play it at a morgue and you'll get "Dance of the Living Dead." 08/01/06
