SKA CUBANO

Besides being one of the world's only bands to combine Cuban and Jamaican music, London-based Ska Cubano is certifiably the only such band to boast young female Japanese saxophoneist, Megumi Mesaku, whose stage name is Miss Magoo.  Looking elegant in an ankle-length silver and red gown last night, Mesaku played several lively solos, including - during the show-closing (and show-stopping) "Ay Caramba!" - one that found her acrobatically playing with her right hand stretched behind her back, so that she could finger her horn from the opposite side.
