AZAM ALI Elysium for the Brave (Six Degrees)
From her traditional pairing in Vas to the groundbreaking Persian electronica outfit Niyaz, Iranian vocalist Azam Ali somehow digs deeper on each effort. Singing predominantly in English, alongside suspected accolades to Urdu and Farsi poetry, Elysium for the Brave masterfully combines organic rhythmic sections fueled by the likes of King Crimson members with producer Carmen Rizzo's masterful digitalism. Ali's voice shines atop Loga Ramin Torkian's brilliant lute playing on "Spring Arrives," and downright slays the ear on the haunting "The Tryst." Hers is a voice that will ring down through the ages, this being her finest hour. 07/05/06
