Dave Holland is not only one of the most venerable and respected bassists in the jazz community; he is also one of its most gifted composers, as he has demonstrated time and time again on his recordings as a leader. He does so yet again on this lovely, sophisticated and swinging quintet date, which features saxophonist Chris Potter, trombonist Robin Eubanks and vibraphonist Steve Nelson, among other luminaries. The sidemen's compositions aren't bad either, particularly Potter's complex and lovely "Vicissitudes." Highly recommended to all jazz collections. (RA)  12/01/06 >> go there
