Dave Holland plays Ann Arbor
At 60, bassist, composer and bandleader Dave Holland is one of the marquee attraction in jazz and a rarity - an innovator who has found an audience.
Since forming his razor-edge quintet in 1997, he's been on a roll, racking up Grammy Awards, jazz poll victories and steady work.
On Thursday in Ann Arbor he'll lead both his rollicking 13-piece big band and, in its metro Detroit debut, an octet including familiar associatex like saxophonist Chris Potter, trombonist Robin Eubanks and vibraphonist Steve Velson as well as new names like trumpeter Alex Sipiagin.
