La Cumbiamba eNeYe are a collective of New York-based Colombian musicians. Marioneta is a Cook's tour of the whole range of Colombian music, from the good-natured rolling brassy attack of Andando Vengo to the rippling marimba of El Camaron. The sound ranges from the deep-throated parp of the bombardino (euphonium) to the bird-like shrill of the gaitas, flutes made from cacti and goose feathers, eerie on the title track. The clattering percussion and call-and-response vocals owe something to Africa. This is the irresistible soundtrack to village celebrations from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
