On the evening of Saturday, April 14, 2007, Capeverdean songstress Lura will perform live in New York City's prestigious World Music Institute (WMI).
Lura, whose lively stage performances enchanted music fans all over the country during a recent (December 2006) U.S. tour, is scheduled to take the stage inside Peter Norton Symphony Space for a night themed Songs of Cape Verde.
The singer will unveil her rich repertoire replete with Cape Verde's traditional rhythms-- batuku, funana and coladera--all in full display in her latest studio album, "M'Bem Di Fora," (October 2006) now available on Times Square/4Q Records.
WMI is a non-profit organization devoted to traditional and contemporary world sounds, and has introduced countless artists in some of New York's best-known music venues like Carnegie Hall, City Center, Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, NYU's Skirball Center Symphony Space, etc.
Lura, a native of Lisbon, has been heavily promoted by other leading world music presenters such as World Music, Cedar Cultural Center, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Swallowhill Music Association, Sounds of Brazil (SOB's), Joe's Pub, Temple Bar, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Hot House, Old Town School of Folk Music, and Another Planet. She wowed the crowds at several world music Festivals, including ¡Globalquerque!. Small World Music Festival, Chicago World Music & Lotus Festivals.
