Lura: 7:30 p.m. Cape Verde, the tiny republic off the coast of Senegal, has produced a distinct musical tradition that conveys its unique African and Portuguese complexion through a growing number of performers who emerge not only from the nation itself but from its diaspora cultures in the U.S. and Europe. Lura is very much a part of this tradition as she comes from a family that left Cape Verde behind but refused to abandon its sound. Born in Lisbon, she never actually set foot in the nation that has provided her primary musical influence until she was 21 years old. But Cape Verdean sensibilities are undeniably infused in her music, described as a mixture of R&B and funk with powerful vocals that give even the most sobering of subjects the resonance of a love song. She comes to Jazz Alley tonight on the heels of the release of her newest album, "M'Bem di Fora," which translates to "I Come From the Country." Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave.; 206-441-9729. $21.50. 04/18/07
