Portuguese Singer Lura to Perform at Monmouth University

Monmouth University Performing Arts Series at Pollak Theatre, 400 Cedar Avenue in West Long Branch, New Jersey, will present Portuguese singer Lura on Friday, April 13, at 8:00 p.m.

One of the few female singer/songwriters embedded in the sumptuous world of Portuguese Creole music, Lura sings of her Cape Verdean ancestry, where African and European communities share a long history of peaceful coexistence.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Lura trancends the boundaries of race to write songs in the authentic Creole language traditional to the isles.  Her warm, communicative voice, his-swiveling dances, and colorful attire are emblematic of the mellow rythems of her exotic upbringing, presented with confidence, beauty, and the radiance of nature.
