Whirling Dervish

The Irish Times once said of Dervish that its "musical integrity makes the group a formidable heir to the throne abandoned by The Bothy Band."

A week before St. Patrick's Day, the traditional Irish folk group pays a visit to Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society for a concert at Carnegie Lecture Hall in Oakland.

Two decades in, Dervish is led by singer Cathy Jordan, fiddle player Tom Morrow, flutist Liam Kelly and accordion player Shane Mitchell, along with the rhythm section of Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes.

Fans are still waiting for the follow-up to 2007's "Travelling Show," but in the meantime, Ms. Jordan is releasing her debut solo album, "All the Way Home," next week.
