DERVISH
Dervish to perform in MRAC concert Nov. 18
The Mimbres Region Arts Council is bringing Dervish, billed as Ireland's top Celtic band, to Silver City this month. According to press release, the Irish Times describes the band as "a brilliant and uncluttered testimonial to music imagination and talent." Dervish will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Western New Mexico University Fine Arts Center Theatre.
Dervish has shared the stage with James Brown, Oasis, Sting, REM, Beck and others, and features Cathy Jordan's vocals and musicians playing such instruments as mandola, bodhran, bones, flute and whistle, fiddle and bouzouki.
According to the release, "Dervish concert performances are a myriad of tones and moods ranging from high energy times, played with fluidity and intuitiveness, to beautifully measured songs, from charming lyrics of life and love, to inspiring melodies that lift audiences from their seats." The release cited one listener as saying that Dervish's performances are "very tight, high energy, eccentric, and fun as all get-out to watch."'
Dervish is sponsored in part by the Western States Arts Federation, the National Endowment for the Arts and by Chino Federal Credit Union.
Tickets are for sale at the MRAC offices in the Wells Fargo Bank building, 1st New Mexcio Bank in Wal- Mart, Mouse of all Trades, Alotta Gelato, Giia Hike Bike, Leyba and Ingalls Arts, and Cienega Spa & Salon.
Prices are $15 for MRAC members, $20 for non-mem bers, $10 for students age and older, and $5 for children age 7 and younger. All adult tickets are $20 at the door.
