Although this band's name was strangely inspired by the devotional Turkish dancers, this group of Irish musicians who met "as strangers in a bar" embody all the traditions of their home country, from the upbeat instrumental tunes to the mellower melodies, which are sung either in English or Gaelic. They also incorporate several modern influences in their sound, including folk guitars and (at least in the studio) string quartet. On their current album, "Spirit" (Compass Records), they showcase some songs that have become part of their live set, such as their version of Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather," a beautiful adaptation to Robert "The Soldier Laddie" and Ewan McColl's 1956 composition. "The Lag's Song." In a live setting, that group always attempts to include music that goes beyond the traditional repertoire. In addition to their take on Dylan, they have also included personal arrangements to Crier's "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and Dire Straits' 1985 hit "Brothers In Arms."
