Boston Globe, Concert Listing >>
Seasonal sounds November 30, 2006
From an indie-rock Hanukkah party to an evening of sacred spirituals, holiday concerts start in earnest this week.
Dec. 21 Jewltide Boston Hasidic has-been Matisyahu played the first Jewltide concert in 2003, before the reggae dude’s studio debut got heaved to the bottom of the buzz bin. So take note: Jewltide, an indie-centric Hanukkah celebration sponsored by HEEB magazine for Jewish scenesters and those who love them, is one of the only places you’ll be able to eat jelly donuts and chocolate gelt and play with a dreidel. It’s also your chance to catch acts such as Gypsy rockers Golem and Klezmer mixmaster SoCalled before they break big. This is the first year that Brooklyn-based founders Aaron Bisman and Jacob Harris are taking Jewltide to the Boston area — partly to foster a sense of community among the attendees. And partly to spread the party vibe. T.T. the Bear’s Place, 10 Brookline St., Cambridge. 617-492-BEAR. 9:30 p.m. $12, $10 advance. 18+ ttthebears.com MATTHEW SHAER 11/30/06 >> go there
