The roots of Baka Beyond were forged back in 1992 when British musicians Martin Cradick and Su Hart visited the Baka tribal people on the Cameroon forests.  They released one album that was essentially a field recording of the extremely musical Baka people and everyday soundscapes, such as their rhythmic washing of clothes in the river.  An early album of their musical collaberations with the Baka was coreleased as Spirit of the Forest under the name Baka Beyond, which notably featured the Dave Swarbrik-influenced violin playing Paddy Le Mercier.  In the years since, five more releases under the group moniker have been released, with the band swelling in size to include percussionists and electric bass, while fusing elements of Celtic music with its African core.  Its latest current band with nine players and singers from all over the globe, as members once more return to the Baka forest to collaborate on new.   04/01/06
