The Sun, CD Review >>
In the vast well of world music, perhaps the most generous source of materials has been the dusty deserts of Mali.
Perhaps Mali’s most striking current act is Tinariwen, who emerged from the southern Sahara six years ago and are now signed to the same label (Independiente) as established rock act Embrace and Travis.
Their third album Aman Iman, a Touareg saying for “water is the soul” or “water of life”, is filled with exotic, mesmerizing sounds, a glorious celebration of the collective’s homeland.
And with his huge mop of hair and incredible vocal range, lead singer and songwriter Ibrahim Ag al-Habib makes for one of the most dashing frontmen on the world stage.
