Downbeat, CD Review >>
Tinariwen, a group of Tuareg refugees from Mali, also embrace circular riffing in their music, stabbing, addictive licks out of a single chord. The group's excellent third album, Aman Iman (World Village 468067; 54:18) ••••'/2, seethes with soulful intensity. Every syncopated hand clap pattern and tightly coiled guitar solo contributes to the emotional impact ofthe band's elegantly restrained delivery. Minimalism rarely sounds so huge. 07/01/07
