TINARIWEN (Tuesday) “Welcome to the desert,” announced a member of Tinariwen, wrapped in a turban and a long robe, at one of its most recent concerts. But from the first droning electric guitar lines and hypnotically repetitive hand claps, the audience was already there. A group of Tuareg nomads from northern Mali, Tinariwen plays stark patterns of modal blues that occasionally snarl in anger or align into stately funk. With DJ Joro Boro.
