Mariza is one of the most acclaimed living fadistas, a young woman with a rich, powerful alto voice perfectly suited to the drama and dark passion of fado. On this live recording she performs a nice variety of songs from that tradition, and her accompanying group (including a string section) supports her spectacularly well -- if it weren't for the audience reaction, you would never guess from the sound or performance quality that this was a live recording. The CD is accompanied by a DVD containing a TV documentary on Mariza and the history of fado that should be welcome in any library collection. Very highly recommended. 05/01/07 >> go there
