Tandem - Canada, On The Beat >>

The rise of this young Portuguese fado singer to star status in world music circles has been pleasing to observe. When she performed at Rancho Relaxo here about four years ago, she was virtually unknown. On the Beat caught and loved that show, and caught her in performance again last month. This time, it was as a headliner at the WOMAD Festival in New Plymouth, New Zealand, and she enthralled a crowd there that had likely never heard fado sung before. Her ability as both a vocalist and entertainer can now be heard (and seen) on a new CD/DVD, Concerto Em Lisboa (out on Times Square/Fusion 111). 04/22/07 >> go there
