Internationally known Portuguese fado singer Mariza will be performing July 17 at the Clube Uniao Portuguesa located at 110 Rubber Avenue, in Naugatuck, Connecticut. The event starts at 7 pm, and tickets are $75 per person, which includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres. For ticket sales please contact Frances Branco at 203-729- 1211.

Mariza has been described as an "International Phenomenon" and has performed before sold out audiences throughout Europe and the United States. She has been given multiple ovations from packed houses that she has performed at, including the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, in Washington, D.C.

Born in Mozambique and raised in Portugal from the age of 3, Mariza has been reviving and reinventing the traditional fado style of music with internationally acclaimed results. The word "fado" comes from the Latin word fatum, which means fate, destiny or doom. Mariza has a talent of conveying and at the same time awakening many emotions in her audience through her lyrics and vocal excellence.

Mariza, a 33-year-old blond female, commands the attention of her audience through her mesmerizing stage presence and superb contralto voice. She has been compared to great vocalists such as Amalia Rodrigues and Maria Callas.

All net proceeds from this event will be donated to the revitalization of the Naugatuck Portuguese Club. This event is made possible with the support of our sponsors ALCOA Catering, Attorney Rosa C. Rebimbas, Attorney Carlos A. Santos, Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan and Power Station Events.
