She is by far one of the best representatives of the West African musical tradition. The Ivory Coast native Dobet Gnahoré, daughter of Boni Gnahoré, the highly respected master drummer, has built her own reputation over the past few years. Her album 'Na Afriki' confronts social and political issues that exist in Africa, as she calls out for Pan-African solidarity. Using local African musical influences, as well as jazz, Dobet Gnahoré is often accompanied on stage by more than ten musicians. With her charisma, and her soft, colourful voice, Dobet Gnahoré depicts daily life in Africa singing in Bété, Baoulé, Lingala, Mina, and Bambara. Touring all over the world, Gnahoré will perform this Monday night at Joe’s Pub in New York. Find out what all the buzz is about!
