Born into a cooperative artists' community on the Ivory Coast, the dynamic Gnahore sings in seven different African languages as she personalizes her basic themes: calls for respect, urging Africans to solve their political and social problems from within, exalting women and the sanctity of childhood, decrying incest, cultural and environmental pillaging. Even without understanding the meaning of her words, however, the music on this generous 15- track disc is rhythmically inviting, drawing upon several African folk traditions.
