Sava the Bouillabaisse Flava
You say you want a revolution? Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra will provide the funk, the blazing beats and the political message. All you have to do is show up. The eclectic, 14-plus piece band is comprised of an auspicious union of Latinos, whites, Afro-Americans, Africans and Asian Americans. This new Afrobeat generation carries on the legacy of Nigerian President and founder of Afrobeat grooves, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Antibalas mixes its diverse influences, best heard on its two albums on Ninja Tune, into a shimmy sham jam that oozes a thick, chocolate-flava'd Latin, jazz and soul bouillabaisse. Antibalas, which means "bullet-proof" or literally, "anti-bullet," smokes out the House of Blues, Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15, 10 pm/21+/$12. For more information, call 617.497.2229.
