Festival International de Louisiane is going to get funked up this month, courtesy of the Balkan Beat Box.
The compelling, witty and seriously talented hip hop group brings its dynamic sound to the Southern Comfort Scene at 9:15 p.m. April 26 and the Popeyes Scene at 10:15 p.m. April 28.
The Balkan Beat Box emerged from the New York City multi ethnic world music scene earlier '"this decade with a unique infusion of hip hop, its African roots and influences from the Middle East, the Balkans and Eastern Europe. It's almost as if gypsy took long swim in America's melting pot and refused to towel off.
Nu Med commingles raw funk, soul, rap, electronica, rock and dance hall sounds into a high energy frenzy that comes off as both relevant and progressive, with enough old school thrown in to make it attractive to even the staunchest genre purist.
Tracks Hermetico, Habibi Min Zomon, BBBeat, Quand Est-Ce Qu'on arrive and Joro Boro are sure to have the festival crowds thumping like the beat of a single, global-conscious heart.
Yep. You guessed it. There is a downfall. The disc is not scheduled to hit the streets until May 15, more than two weeks after Festival winds down.
No doubt the Balkan Beat Box experience will still be fresh in the minds of those who experience it by the time Nu Med is available for purchase. 04/13/07 >> go there
