Wacky and wonderful, silly and strange: Balkan Beat Box is an American world-music duo consisting of ex-Gogol Bordello member Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat of Firewater and Big Lazy. BBB's unique sound fuses the traditional styles of Jewish, Mediterranean, and Balkan music with modern rap, hip hop, reggae, dub, acid, and electronica. If you are a fan of such bands as 3 Mustaphas 3 or Brave Combo, then you are going to love BBB. Both live and in the studio they create an intoxicating mix, supported by a large international band of players, including Tomer Yosef, Billy Levy, Ben Hendler, Itamar Ziegler, Dana Leung, Eyal Talmudi, Jeremiah Lockwood, and Peter Hess. Nu Med is the band's second album and is a constantly flowing and changing mix of styles. They also happen to be insanely danceable, to boot. In short, expected the unexpected, and enjoy what can only be described as the perfect soundtrack to the crazy, schizophrenic century we now find ourselves in. 08/01/07
