We end the week with music from a true master of vodou Erol Josue.

Erol Josue is a vodou priest and now he's a recording artist. His debut CD is called "Regleman."

WERMAN: What does regleman mean?

JOSUE: Regleman means, in vodou Creole, vodou protocol. It's how you start the ceremony and finish the ceremony. It's the liturgy of vodou. That's regleman. It's my vision, my way of life.

WERMAN: Now there are different levels of priesthood. What level are you at?

JOSUE: You know about vodou. I'm the priest they call houngan. I have my vodou temple. They know I'm the priest at the top. I have a temple in New York City and in Haiti. I grew up in the vodou temple. My father passed away five months ago and now I have the legacy to continue.

WERMAN: What came first, vodou priest or artist?

JOSUE: Life. Vodou is a way of life. The vodou priest and artist work together. For me the stage is sacred, the stage is a place to deliver what I have to the spirit. It's a place to be lead by the spirit.

WERMAN: How important is music in vodou?

JOSUE: Music is our bible. For example, any situation in life has music. The music in Regleman is universal and I try to do a common language for people, but it's also personal. I can be inspired by that microphone and that situation and sing it.

WERMAN: You've opened the door with this album to a new audience. People who don't believe in vodou, but who want to hear good music. Are you prepared for this kind of awkward inter action between the secular music lovers and deeply spiritual, religious aspect of where this music comes from?

JOSUE: Yes, that my philosophy. Right now we talk about globalization and as artists we cushion the world, we cushion society. I think it's very important to bring the secular and the religious. For me that my philosophy as an advocate of my country.
