Pasadena Weekly, CD Review >>
An upbeat, nominally Cuban collection whose refreshing edge owes as much to Conde's hip Miami sensibilities as it does to its incorporation of reggae, mambo, soca, cumbia and other Caribbean grooves and instrumentation into its rhythmic — and romantic Cuban base. Meters drummer Ziggy Modeliste guests on "Oshiri Pan Pan," one of several genre- fusing tracks. The music may be funky new salsa, but the prevailing theme is akin to reggae's perennial message of tribal togetherness, and unity through cooperation. Conde plays the Mint in LA on Friday, July 20. www.olafresca.com
