The demographics of Queens has changed rapidly in the last few years and with it a bit of a cultural revolution has occured. What started in 1997 as an event to honor local Latino talent has grown into the full fledged JPMorgan Chase Latino Cultural Festival, a week-long celebration of Spanish, African, and Caribbean influenced dance, music, cinema and theatre. Revered artists across Latin America share the spotlight with young talent, just beginning to turn heads. The festival's sheer range of cultural events draws one of the largest crowds in the Northeast every year. From legendary dance company Noche Flamenca [pictured], to an animated feature film illuminating Peruvian history, to 62 year-old Afro-Colombian singer Petrona Martinez, a week seems to barely break the surface. Viva la revolucion indeed! 07/27/07
