Usually, Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day.

Well, Friday, July 13, 2007, proved to be the positive exception to that negative "rule." That day, beginning at 8 p.m., South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela's vibrant trumpet and flugelhorn solos, enhanced by his powerful vocals, was the star attraction on a jam-packed Circle Line "Rockin' The River" cruise on the Hudson. For two solid hours, Masekela and his amazing band rocked the boat with his unique style of pop, R&B, Afropop and jazz. He also played songs from his impressive new album, "Hugh Masekela: Live at the Market Theatre."

Over several decades, Masekela has had American and international hits, working with bands around the world, including African and American musicians during his stellar career. Masekel was part of Paul Simon’s "Graceland" tour in the mid '80s, while he continued recording and produced sessions by Miriam Makeba. Starting in the mid-'90s, Masekela began releasing stream of albums and collections that showed his versatility and growth in South African jazz. Bravo!, Mr. Maskela. Although you didn't perform your classic hit, "Grazing in the Grass," you once again demonstrated why you are truly a living music legend. EXIT, WRITE...
