Hugh Masekela-Live at the Market Theatre (2-CD) Times Square Records

Hugh Masekela is a proud musician with ties to South Africa. Ties so strong that he has created Chissa Entertainment, an African owned entertainment network and recording company that also develops screen plays and musical theater. His double-disc CD  Live at the Market Theater, is full of fifteen energetic and groove driven tracks. Check out cuts as the Fela Kuti inspired, "The Boy's Doin It," trailed by the sensuaous "Ashiko," the cowbell sensation "Ha Le Se," Fela Kuti's rhythmic "Lady," plus 1968 hit "Grazing In The Grass," and Masekela's anthem "Mandela," calling for the release of ANC leader Nelson Mandela. Disc two shines with "Thuma Mina," the solid beat of "Up Township," two Masekela compositions, the up beat "Happy Mama," and the horn-laden "Market Place." Festivities end with a salute to African songwriter Dorothy Maskuka by performing "Khauleza" and the finale is titled "Thanayi." Masekela's trumpet creates the musical bond that connects America and Africa! 08/10/07
