Oliver Mtukudzi, Tsimba Itsoka (Heads Up)

Perhaps the Phil Ochs of Zimbabwe, but with a beat, this voice in the wilderness has been at it a while and certainly qualifies as an icon of sorts in his genre. Well into his AARP years, he shows no sign of slowing down in his quest to point out injustice and inequity of all sorts at all levels, with a beat. Perpetually going to the top of the charts in his homeland, Mtukudzi certainly opens the ears and takes on the senses, if you have any sense. The kind of release that’s not for everyone, but is right down the middle for those that understand it. 08/09/07 >> go there
